Bridging the Gap (BTG)

Alcoholics Anonymous Temporary Contact Program

What It Is

BTG is a temporary contact program that helps individuals transition from treatment or incarceration into the AA community. The time between release and attending a first meeting is often the hardest—BTG helps bridge that gap.

Once released, a BTG Volunteer will contact you by phone and make arrangements to meet you at an A.A. Meeting. We will introduce you to other A.A. Meetings; explain the A.A. Program and the importance of finding a Sponsor and getting connected. Men are referred to men, women to women.

Why It Matters

  • Early recovery can feel overwhelming and isolating

  • Many people are unsure where to go or who to trust

  • Early connection can make the difference in staying sober

What BTG Does

  • Connects individuals to AA meetings and support

  • Volunteer contact on or shortly after release

  • Instructions to use the Meeting Guide app provided

  • May attend up to 3 meetings with you

  • Provides contacts and explains sponsorship & home groups

  • Peer support (men with men, women with women)

What BTG Does NOT Do

  • Provide housing, meals, or transportation

  • Operate treatment or detox facilities

  • Charge dues or fees

  • Keep membership records

  • Practice medicine, psychiatry or nursing

  • Offer religious services

  • Offer professional counseling

You are not alone. Support is available when you step out.
